This project has only been made possible by the tireless work of our dedicated volunteers who, to date, have transcribed over 300 of the 370+ tithe apportionments held at the Record Office.
The volunteer group was established in April 2020, towards the beginning of the first lockdown of the Covid pandemic when onsite volunteering was suspended. While this project is of great value to the Record Office, it was designed to be of equal benefit to the volunteers, providing an interesting and sometimes challenging way to fill the extra time they found on their hands, in place of the hours usually spent at the Record Office. All the volunteers worked from home using digital copies of the original documents to create transcripts in a spreadsheet. The majority of the work for this project was completed during this time, however, work still continues on-site to transcribe and scan the remaining and newly deposited tithe records.
We would like to thank all of our volunteers who have contributed to the tithe apportionment transcription project for their hard work and dedication to make this resource possible.

Despite efforts to ensure the accuracy of the transcriptions, some errors may still exist due to the challenging nature of reading the original material. Therefore, it is advisable to consult the original apportionments to verify the names of individuals and places. Copies of the original apportionments can be viewed in our searchroom, please use the contact page to get in touch.
