“Bainbridge in the parish of Aysgarth, is an ancient village on the south bank of the river Ure, one mile southwest of Askrigg, its township contains 881 souls and 14,210 acres of land.” William White’s History, Gazetteer and Directory of the East and North Ridings of Yorkshire, 1840.
