“Forcett in the parish of Gilling, a pleasant hamlet and township in a fertile and picturesque valley, 8 miles north of Richmond, has only 92 inhabitants and 1,710 acres of land, all the property of Charles Mitchell Esq of Forcett Hall, the lord of the manor.” William White’s History, Gazetteer and Directory of the East and North Ridings of Yorkshire, 1840.
