Glaisdale (Egton)

“Glaisdale, a pleasant scattered village, on the south side of Eskdale, 9 miles W.S.W. of Whitby, gives name to a parochial chapelry, which is subject to Danby parish, and contains 1,004 inhabitants, and 8,370 acres of land, partly in open moors, and including many scattered houses in the deep and narrow but fertile valley of Glaisdale.” William White’s History, Gazetteer and Directory of the East and North Ridings of Yorkshire, 1840.
