“Old Malton, where the Priory was situated, is a small pleasant village, about 1 mile north of Malton Market place and 18 miles northeast of York, contains a population of 1,204 souls and 4,020 acres of land.” William White’s History, Gazetteer and Directory of the East and North Ridings of Yorkshire, 1840.
